Tales on the Rails - To Llandudno!

16 Jul 2017

The Welsh Books Council are organising another Author Tour with a difference as part of their successful  @LlyfrDaFabBooks  scheme. Past events have included a train journey in the company of author Meinir Wyn Edwards along the Cambrian Railway but this time pupils will be making their journey along the Conwy Valley Line to Llandudno.

The lucky young travellers will be pupils from Ysgol Eglwysbach, Bro Cynfal, Bro Gwydir and Penmachno. With 2017 earmarked by the Welsh Government as the Year of Legends, the author selected for this special event will be Myrddin ap Dafydd, author of  Stori Cymru  /  The Story of Wales  published by Gwasg Carreg Gwalch.

During June and July Myrddin will hold workshops 'on the move', and pupils will have the unique opportunity to learn about stories and legends specific to their own area in an exciting and innovative way. Llandudno Central Library will form the stop-over parts of the days where pupils will 'refuel' and continue on their learning 'journeys'.

The project is a collaboration between the Welsh Books Council and Arriva Trains Wales who have worked closely with many schools and libraries along the line, and this special project will be an opportunity to further improve pupils' awareness with presentations on safety being given at participating schools.

According to Helen Jones of the Welsh Books Council: "One of the main objectives of the  @LlyfrDaFabBooks  scheme is to promote reading, and we have witnessed the positive impact on reading that our author tours have made, as well as raising the profile of children's and young adult literature. We will certainly be continuing our work with these projects in future in order to support teaching and learning in fun and innovative ways."
