World Book Day 2010

Welcome to the World Book Day 2011 web pages for Wales which was held on Thursday 3 March 2011.

The Biggest Ever Storytelling Session to take place on World Book Day in Wales!

To celebrate World Book Day this year, the Welsh Books Council will be giving all primary schools throughout Wales the chance to participate in the biggest ever storytelling session, with specially commissioned stories being read to them via the internet. Four specially commissioned World Book Day stories by four Welsh authors will be beamed into schools for school children between 7 and 11 years old, via short films hosted online so that all schools across Wales can watch the stories come to life on the big day, Thursday 3rd of March.

‘The Sleeper’ by Ruth Morgan

What is the secret of the strange wooden carving that sits in the school hall? Does it have the power to make dreams come true? Will school life change for ever because of it, and why did the inspectors send it to the school in the first place?

‘Y Daten Ddieflig Ddrwg’ by Morgan Tomos

The fiendishly bad potato wants to rule the world! With the help of his army of red tomatoes, ten other potatoes and two sausages, things look promising but then… along comes the fork and the whole story changes!

Welsh-language story for 9 to 11 year olds

‘Hunangofiant Bachgen Drwg’ by Nicholas Daniels

Naughty pupils are sent to the school library in order to improve their ways. The mischief that they have done varies but only one of them will benefit from the ‘Better Behaviour’ session. Who will it be? What did he do wrong, and what did he discover in the library?
